Medicare Part D – “Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit”

When you turn 65 you have the option of getting a Prescription Drug Plan from Medicare. We recommend that everyone with a Medicare Supplement should consider one of these programs.  Note: if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, the drug benefit is included with that plan.

While I am not a great fan of governmental computer systems, the online enrollment program for the Medicare Prescription drug plans is superlative.

Thus many agents like ourselves have made the decision not to sell prescription drug plans because this Do-It-Yourself Medicare enrollment system makes it so simple for you to enroll online. This system will allow you to:

  • Look at the most competitive plans
  • Enroll in a plan that offers the best value for your specific medications
  • Verify each year that you have the most cost-effective plan
  • Change plans—if you desire—at the annual open enrollment that goes from October 15th to December 7th.  When you enroll in a new drug plan, your old plan will automatically be cancelled.

To make the enrollment process simple, we will educate you on how to use the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit online enrollment system and provide a tutorial to help you with the process. Simply follow the steps outlined in this tutorial and you will easily complete the process.

When we meet to help you enroll in supplemental Medicare plans, we will also educate you about these prescription drug plans. The best way to approach this tutorial link is to first print it and then simply follow the step-by-step instructions.

If you carefully follow the tutorial instructions, you can easily identify the plan the offers the “best value” for your needs and budget!  And you just click “Enroll” to enroll in the plan.

Each year you will have the opportunity to verify that you have the prescription drug plan that offers the best value for your particular medications. If you don’t like your current prescription drug benefit plan, or if the premiums have risen more than you like, you can only make changes during this “Annual Open Enrollment.”

When you use this Medicare Part D online system to enroll in a new prescription drug plan, the new plan will begin on January 1 and the system will automatically cancel your old plan. Click on the tutorial below to see instructions on how to navigate the Medicare website.

If you carefully follow the instructions, you will easily find the plan that offers the “best value” for your needs and budget!
